Ceramic Coating For Bikes: What You Need to Know

We know ceramic coating is very beneficial to people with vehicles. It provides amazing benefits such as paint protection and makes it easier to clean, but what about those of us with bikes? The good news for us, it offers the same benefits as a traditional car or truck.

In this article we will discuss the benefits of applying a ceramic coating to your bike whether that be a bicycle or a motorcycle.

What is Ceramic Coating?

Before we get too far into it, we should first start with the basics. What in the world even is this coating you speak of?

Ceramic coating is the latest in paint protection for any type of vehicle whether that be cars, trucks, bicycles, motorcycles, and even boats! The coating is made up of two primary ingredients, silica and titanium dioxide. These two ingredients combined create a thin hydrophobic layer of protection for your paint. It repels water and other debris such as dirt, all while making your paint less prone to scratches. If that isn’t enough detail, we break it down further here.

Why You Should Ceramic Coat Your Bike

There are hundreds of reasons on why it is a good idea to ceramic coat your bike. Let’s break down a few of the benefits.

Easier to clean

Because the coating is hydrophobic, it makes the paint more resistant to dirt and other road debris. This makes things less likely to stick to the paint of your bike, thus easier to clean. Bikes have a lot more hard to clean crevises compared to a car or truck so this can be a huge time saver.

Scratch Resistant

There is nothing worse than getting a scratch on your bike. While ceramic coating isn’t going to protect your paint like a film or a wrap would it certainly ups the protection against scratches. The road is a dirty place and when rocks, dirt, and other debris get kicked up and hit your paint scratches and chips in your paint happen. Ceramic coating forms a thin layer of coating between the outside world and your paint so anything that hits your car has to go through it first before touching your paint. Think of it like a body guard.

Makes Your Paint More Glossy

Depending on who you ask, this might be the biggest benefit to coating your bike. It makes your paint look dang good. It takes a lot of effort to wash and wax your bike’s paint only for it to be dirty shortly after. Ceramic coating solves that problem and makes your paint more shiny and glossy than any other product possibly could.

How to Apply Ceramic Coating to a Bike?

The process of applying the coating to a motorcycle or bicycle is a lot easier than you would think. Here’s what the process looks like:

  1. Clean the paint, yes a deep clean. Make sure there is not one spec of dust, grime, or any other materials left on the paint. We want the coating bonding to the paint, not debris.
  2. Apply the coating using the included applicator. Bikes have a lot of curves and crevices so this can take some time. The more effort you put into this, the better the results. Plan about 2-3 hours for this part.
  3. Let your new ceramic coating cure. You want to avoid using your bike for a few days while the ceramic hardens. If you use your bike for a commute try doing this on a Friday so it is ready to go by Monday.

Should I do it?

Heck yeah you should. This is one of the easiest upgrades you can do on your bike to not only protect the paint, but to make that bad boy POP!
